There’s lots of fun and interesting things to do in South West Rocks. This is a unique area that combines historic sites with natural beauty. Situated roughly halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, South West Rocks is a quieter holiday destination. You won’t find any high-rise developments housing nightclubs here. Rest assured, there’s still plenty of other things to do.
South West Rocks is renowned for its natural beauty and friendly locals. The Rocks, as it’s known locally, still maintains its laid-back coastal village feel. There’s plenty of funky cafes, restaurants and boutique shops to enjoy. Together with the pristine Macleay River, the immaculate beaches and expansive bush land, the Rocks has it all. Adjacent to Salt @ South West Rocks is the lovely Riverside Tavern that’s just a short stroll away. The Riverside has delicious food, huge wine and beer selection and indoor/outdoor dining areas. In addition, for the fishing and diving enthusiasts, there are boat ramps right next to our grounds.
Historic sites include the incredible Trial Bay Gaol. This is a heritage-listed former prison located at Arakoon adjacent to South West Rocks. Next, take in the coastal view from the stunning Smokey Cape Lighthouse opened in 1891, it’s the tallest on the East coast.
There’s no end to the activities on around the waterways of the area. The mighty Macleay River offers water sports such as water skiing, boating, fishing and snorkelling. There are plenty of boat ramps to launch your own craft or you might like to join a fishing charter. Beyond this, the beaches here offer similar activities plus diving and spear fishing. If bush walking is your thing then Arakoon National Park and Hat Head National Park offer quite trails with ocean glimpses.
